Yesterday, like many other Star Wars: the Old Republic players, I packed up my pixels and moved to new servers for my PvP and RP server characters.
Miraculously, my server transfers took only a few minutes total. And I was able to keep most — but not all– of the names of the six characters I transferred over. Not too shabby. If you’ve yet to move, I have a few tips:
- Make sure you’ve let all your GTN auctions expire, and have picked them up from the mailbox.
- Make sure you’ve pulled out everything you want to keep that’s currently in your mailbox.
- If you are a guild leader, you will have to disband the guild before you can transfer — and will need to have cleaned out your guild bank beforehand as well.
- Hit transfer!
For more tips and answers to any questions you may have, check out the Server Transfers FAQs. I also have some resources for folks who need inspirations for picking new names for themselves (scroll down midway), or for thinking up a clever new name for their reformed guild.
Personally, I’m pretty happy overall with how the transfers have gone. I am happy there weren’t minimum levels for transferring characters, or caps to how much of the stuff you’ve collected that you were allowed to bring with you. I was impressed that all my items and my credits were right where I left them when I logged in to the new servers. And most of all, it was great to be standing around on fleet with 250+ people across factions on each of my two new servers. Not too shabby!
I am still waiting to hear the fate of my final server, which I am still holding out hope for being a destination server given how overstuffed the other two East Coast PvE servers were last night. We shall see…
How about you? Have you done your server transfer yet?
In looking over the RP-PvE transfers, it looks like they are stuffing all the East Coast RP-PvE onto The Ebon Hawk, and all the West Coast RP-PvE onto Bergeron Colony.
It’s funny that I landed on two E Coast servers…I may eventually look into West Coast to better enable raiding.
I took the plunge on the one server that’s opened for it so far, and hoping to hear about the other two today. My RP server has 2-3 instances of both the Republic and Imperial fleets, so almost 600 characters on one and almost 700 on the other. That’s one heck of a step up from 30.
So crazy! And in a good way.
🙂
We moved last night and while I was nervous at first, I’ve gotta say … it couldn’t have gone any better. It was so smooth and seamless. And Ebon Hawk is a really nice community to boot. It was great to see 300+ people on fleet. Felt like launch all over again!
Agreed– totally had that festive launch feel on the fleet.
I’m hoping our server will be a destination server. I just don’t see merging all the PVE East Coast servers into one of the two going well…
Seems like we Juyoites are off to Canderous Ordo — with everyone else. I have some hard thinking to do because my slots are all full on Juyo and I ALSO have toons on CO already. /sigh I haven’t really decided what I’m doing yet!
😦 well, rats!
Let me know what you end up doing…
I just heard that Juyo people are coming over to Canderous Ordo. Does that mean I will finally be able to purchase some Anexxia gear?
Alas, my synthweaver on Canderous Ordo is my Sage. And as such, she’s Nexxi, not Anexxia. You may already be seeing my made by Nexxi gear on fashionable fleet dwellers near you!
Me and mine were already situated on Begeren Colony before the transfers, so I haven’t had a reason to pick up my things and shuffle on anywhere. Nice to see all the new people wandering about though.
Kind of wondering what will become of all of those who chose to not transfer and stay behind though. Maybe I’ll leave my one low level character on Juyo there just to see what the post-apocalyptic fleet is like.
I left a lowbie on all my old servers so I can go back and see what it feels/looks like post transfers…
My server hasn’t shown up on the list either way yet, but I brought up the subject of possible transfers with my guild and they weren’t thrilled by the idea. Almost all of us would lose our names as we currently all have fairly short ones that are already taken on current destination servers. I hate feeling like I’m caught between a rock and a hard place. 😦
Have you found out your server’s fate yet?
I think that the pros of transfers far outweigh the cons. Sure, you might have some queues during rush hours but don’t forget that Bioware didn’t even raise the server population caps yet! I think they’ll probably do it right before the release of Update 1.3 (around end of June) to be able to cope with all the players coming back for new content and features.
The queues have not been too terrible for me on my servers despite them being heavy population. I think the largest pain point for folks has been that the consolidated servers has meant name changes for many people…I had to rename 1 of the 6 characters I moved, so it wasn’t that terrible for me. My legacy name was available on all 3 transfer servers.
Yes you’re right. Some players had to change 7-8 character names… plus their legacy name! I feel bad for those players. Meanwhile, other players were so happy to have the opportunity to change (randomly) some of their character names.
P.S. Warning to all the players who had to change some of their names. When you’ll send items between your characters with the mailbox, don’t make the mistake of typing your previous names (e.g. Bob vs Bo’b vs Bobb) unless you want to make someone else happy. Get used quickly to your new names.

anybody think there is a chance bioware will force transfers eventually?
