The Reconsolidation Begins!

It’s been pretty quiet around these parts. But yesterday, the blog saw a small flurry of visitors, looking for assistance from my post with its resources for (re)naming your SWTOR characters, and ideas for (re)naming your guild something clever.

That’s because with less than a day’s notice, SWTOR did another server consolidation, moving all the origina server folks to a new server, but in some cases, additionally moving destination servers from the round 1 consolidation to a new server as well.

The 3 that specifically affected me were:

Jedi Covenant Destination
Includes: Jedi Covenant, Canderous Ordo, The Constant, Krayiss Obelisk, Kathol Rift, Whitebeam Run, Khoonda Militia, Ki-Ta Kren, Kaas City, Fort Garnik, Hanharr, Sedyn Kyne, Keetael, The Corsair, Nathema, Zez-Kai Ell, Shii-Cho, The Courageous, Assassins of Sion, Eidolon Security, Axial Park, Keller’s Void, Master Dorak, Juyo, The Defenestrator, Telos Restoration Project.

The Ebon Hawk
The Ebon Hawk, Kath Hound, Rubat Crystal, Lord Adraas, Sanctum of the Exalted, Shien.

The Bastion
The Bastion, The Crucible Pits, The Maw, Rakata Mind Prison, Nadd’s Sarcophagus, Infinite Empire, Daragon Trail, Warriors of the Shadow, Black Vulkars, Shadowtown, The Swiftsure, Dark Reaper, Wound in the Force, Mandalore the Indomitable.

Wait, no I’m wrong I also have characters consolidated over onto The Harbinger too, from Space Slug…

The Harbinger
The Harbinger, Drooga’s Pleasure Barge, Fa’athra, Veeboo Lunx, Master Gnost-Dural, Darth Xedrix, Gauntlet of Kressh, Zakkeg Beast, Perlemian Trade Route, Zaalbar, Empress Teta, Namadii Corridor, Kaiburr Crystal, Krath, Wall of Light, Vornskr, Soresu, Lord Praven, Master Zhar Lestin, Space Slug, Darth Sion, Hyperspace Cannon, Mask of Nihilus, The Jekk’Jekk Tarr.

I had an OK time of it in that I didn’t lose any of my level 47+ names. I lost a number of my placeholder names, and on Jedi Covenant, I now have 3 characters with the same name times 3 if I recall, which means having to figure out a slew of new names, or, more likely just deleting some of those alts after checking their bags for shiny crafted gear made by Anexxia.

I still need to log in and actually rechoose my legacy name and clean things up. It was just too overwhelming last night, after seeing all the characters crammed together on Canderous Ordo, to get it together and sort it all out.

I’m hoping that now that we went through this additional consolidation, paid server transfers will be on the horizon so I can finally do my own reunification and consolidation and no longer have my favorite character on a PvP server as I am just not feeling that environment.

How’d you fair?

Server Transfers One Week In…

server transfers, Star Wars: The Old Republic, SWTOR

It’s been a week since I started my server transfer journeys. All four of my servers have gotten the nod, with the last server becoming eligible early this week. The screenshot above captures one of the nicest small touches that came about as a result of the server hopping: all my made by Anexxia gear, including pieces I’ve made for myself to wear, now bear the legend “The maker’s name has been worn completely off.” where my name used to be.

Guild Status

On my PvP server, The Bastion, I easily reconnected with my guild upon first post-transfer login. I am noticing, however, that it has been slow going for folks to transfer over. I think many folks are waiting for Patch 1.3 to hit before returning to the game and to the guild. The open question remains: will they stay put or continue to ebb and flow as each new MMO shiny object loses its lustre? And Republic side, we need to find a date and time for four officers to click the guild recharter. Oopsie!

My RP server, The Ebon Hawk, is already working on integrating all of us new transferees into the server community. In addition to having some server-wide events scheduled, which were mentioned in the most recent community wrap-up, they’ve started a server forum. I’m happy to see all this activity as it gives me hope I may yet find an active home for my level 47 Marauder and wee little Sorcerer alt. My teeny Sage is reguilded with the RMC, who is busy with many 16-man operations and seems to have picked right up from where they left off.

Last and not least, my PvE server, Candorous Ordo, is booming. I’ve been questing there Republic side and am cheered on by the sight of so many other players out in the worlds. My Sage has been making serious progress in her story, and is now 39 and midway through Hoth.

What’s Next?

I’m hoping that my PvE server ends up having a solid solution for my Empire characters. Specifically, to give me a place to server transfer my other Imperials to when we eventually, hopefully, can do paid server transfers from one server type to another. *crosses her fingers* I am also hopeful I will get in the occasional raid once my Sage hits 50. Trying to have some small, manageable and attainable goals!

What about you? How are you feeling about your servers now that the dust is settling?

I’ve taken the SWTOR Server Transfer Plunge– Have You?

Yesterday, like many other Star Wars: the Old Republic players, I packed up my pixels and moved to new servers for my PvP and RP server characters.

Miraculously, my server transfers took only a few minutes total. And I was able to keep most — but not all– of the names of the six characters I transferred over. Not too shabby. If you’ve yet to move, I have a few tips:

  1. Make sure you’ve let all your GTN auctions expire, and have picked them up from the mailbox.
  2. Make sure you’ve pulled out everything you want to keep that’s currently in your mailbox.
  3. If you are a guild leader, you will have to disband the guild before you can transfer — and will need to have cleaned out your guild bank beforehand as well.
  4. Hit transfer!

For more tips and answers to any questions you may have, check out the Server Transfers FAQs. I also have some resources for folks who need inspirations for picking new names for themselves (scroll down midway), or for thinking up a clever new name for their reformed guild.

Personally, I’m pretty happy overall with how the transfers have gone. I am happy there weren’t minimum levels for transferring characters, or caps to how much of the stuff you’ve collected that you were allowed to bring with you. I was impressed that all my items and my credits were right where I left them when I logged in to the new servers. And most of all, it was great to be standing around on fleet with 250+ people across factions on each of my two new servers. Not too shabby!

I am still waiting to hear the fate of my final server, which I am still holding out hope for being a destination server given how overstuffed the other two East Coast PvE servers were last night. We shall see…

How about you? Have you done your server transfer yet?

Why the Rush to 50?

end game, Star Wars: The Old Republic, SWTOR, the rush to 50

…or more specifically, why the rush to end game?

This week, my Inquisitor hit 50. And somehow, she even had enough cash on hand to buy her level 3 speeder riding and speeder! And to clean up a few gear pieces. And thanks to an unusually awesome RNG, she got an epic headpiece out of her first PvP commendation bag. Not bad progress in a game with about 100 hours of playtime that only officially launched on December 20, in the midst of the holidays.

It’s sort of hard to believe that I’m at the end of my class story, and now ready to embark upon the many max level activities that lie ahead. I’ve got PvP matches aplenty to do, to farm for the elusive purple lightsaber. I want to do the max level versions of all the flashpoints no one wanted to do during the mad rush to 50. I want to maximize my number of daily quests so I can pick up the daily commendation level 3 speeder.

I was poised to take some time and bask in the glow and ease in to end game. I love raiding, as can be attested to by the volume of raiding related posts on the other blog, but I was honestly feeling as though there was plenty for me to do for a week or two or more before jumping in. So while I was excited about a raid this week, it wasn’t on my “it better happen or else” list.

I think I had a solid 5 minutes before I started to hear from folks that we were falling behind. And last night, I actually had my first /gquit from someone who had signed up to raid with us tomorrow night (our first official guild raid! huzzah!) because “we’re taking too long to do end game.”

o.O

I have to tell you I am honestly a little bit floored. I’ve watched my significant other talk to numerous guildies about raiding, including a good amount of pre-50s. He confirmed days and times that seem like they’ll work. Has had strats up on our Wiki for a week or more so everyone can be on the same page. And just this week we finally had enough tanks and healers publicly express interest in raiding that we’re going to give Karraga’s Palace a shot.

But it’s still not fast enough for some folks. Which just proves the adage “you can’t please all of the people all of the time.”

So, we’ll see how it goes. And you can bet I’ll report back here.
