Today’s poll inspired entirely by yesterday’s post on how to find a SWTOR guild. This one is a multiple-selection, to reflect that fact that I think many folks are going to be hedging their bets and indulging their altaholism by having a number of guild affiliations, and playing both sides of the fence.
What Are Your SWTOR Guild Plans?

At the very least, I’m going to have to join two guilds, one for each faction.
But, I might have to join more than that too. I don’t have any intention at all of raiding in SWTOR. I might join in if I happen to be in a guild that’s doing it and they need an extra body on a night when I’m not otherwise occupied, but I’m looking for entertainment here, not a obligatory time sink. I do, however, plan on doing a fair amount of PvP in SWTOR. I don’t know if there’s going to be an arena scene similar to WoW or not, but I’d like to be in a guild where enough people like to PvP that I’m not always going in alone.
Overall the best fit for me is going to be a guild(s) that does everything. One with a solid raiding core, which also has members who enjoy PvP, and where people like to roll and level alts. I don’t want to be a bystander in a raiding guild where my nightly activities involve watching everyone fill my chat log with raiding information while I’m doing my own thing on alt #437.
I’m sort of actively, passively looking for a guild. I’m not going on a hunt for one, but I’m paying special attention for people in my social circles mentioning guilds to see if one might fit with what I’m looking for. With still months yet before the game is released it feels too early to really get involved in looking for a guild right now, but I don’t want to miss an opportunity if a good fit comes up.

I hear you on that! I have a feeling that much like my later-stage WoW playing, I will end up with a blend of being in a couple of guilds and possibly even starting one. My ideal guild would have a very active social component, and a possibility of raiding. But like you I definitely do NOT want to be in a guild whose primary focus is raiding.
I’m a follower from your shadow priest blog who’s going to be hopping over to TOR with some of my other guild from WoW. Of the classes on the Sith side, I’ve been seriously interested in the Sith Inquisitor as well. I’m hoping to play some sort of tank / healer combo if the build would be supported, similar to the jedi counciler. If that doesn’t work out, I’ll likely just go caster dps or healer.
Per your post on your SP blog, I think that the Sith Inquisitor content actually parallels the shadow priest quite well. Of the classes in TOR, the Inquisitor is the most similar to a shadow priest, and likely is in play style. Perhaps its just because I play a SP in WoW and think the Sith Inquisitor’s rather neat, but I do feel you could have blogged on both on Bible of Dreams. I do, however, see how you could want to separate the two.
Just a long time reader saying hello. ^^
Thanks so much for dropping by!

And it truly did take a lot of internal debate to decide to start up a new blog for SWTOR versus expanding the scope of Bible of Dreams. But I am excited to be playing around on WordPress, having exclusively used Typepad for blogging all these years. And like you, the similarities between Sith Inquisitor and shadow priests was definitely what drew me in…
I’m still exploring my options currently. I know I want to raid, but I also want to check out the PvP scene and most importantly have a fun, team-oriented group of folks to play with.
The guild finder tool seems helpful in finding groups with the same schedules and playstyles, but who can say this far out which will live up to their own hype? Its easy to say “progression raiding guild” when the game is months from release. ๐
The most exciting option for me would be to start a guild with friends. No previous guild baggage, just a fresh start with the opportunity to build a home from square one.
In any case, I’m not in a rush. I’m sure people’s expectations will change over time as they see the actual game and what they want to do in it. For now I’m keeping an open mind.
I agree on how nice it will be to be experiencing a new game, on a new server, with new people. After 6+ years in one game world, it will be nice to have a fresh start.
I have a guild for the republic that I plan to play with only 6ish hours a week. This will be my alt. I also have a empire guild that is a place holder for all my RL friends to join so that we end up on the same server, but will probably disband it shortly after launch. I have a guild in mind to join after that but we will have to see when the time comes. Being in a nice, sociable guild has always been a plus but I can play just fine on my own as well.
I expect to do something similar– have my fingers in a few different guilds and play both sides of the fence and see what ends up being the beset fit. I think that’s the one primary learning I had from WoW: you never know what is going to work out best for you guild-wise until you try it out for a while…
